The Restoration of the Saint Gertrudis Parish Church at Kuringen-Hasselt

type: documentation, restoration
date: 2001- (project in progress)
for: churchfabric Saint Gertrudis & architectenbureau P.Stevens bvba

description:
This project comprises the full restoration of a parish church with a rich and complex history going back to the 15th c. Restoration dossiers for exterior and carpentry, stained glass windows, interior and technical infrastructures are officially approved.

Leaded glass panels were found, piled up in a cellar in very bad condition. After classification and identification of all surviving pieces, restoration became possible, saving a niece example of 19th c windows from total loss.

Detailed studies are made of the paint layers of the interior, leading to a new proposal. Furniture, paintings and sculptures will also be conserved and restored.

Execution will start in 2004 or 2005.
